Denver Nuggets Pull Isaiah Thomas From The Regular Rotation, Per ESPN

Updated: Jan 20, 2020

After a late start with the Denver Nuggets this season, guard Isaiah Thomas may be set to finish early this season. Reports from the Nuggetsʼ front office confirm that coach Michael Malone intends to shorten his rotation for the stretch run. “Definitely talked to him,” head coach Mike Malone told reporters after the game. “Iʼll keep that conversation between I.T. and myself,” Malone said. “Not an easy conversation, but thatʼs my job… Isaiah is a pro and was into the game, supporting his teammates.”

According to Malone, “Itʼs never about Isaiah. Itʼs never about any individual.”“Itʼs about what I think is best for our team. And I made the decision to shorten the rotation, only played eight guys in the first quarter. And Iʼm going to continue to do that for the time being.”

Currently, Isaiah Thomas is averaging just 8.6 points (37.3 FG%), 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 15.5 minutes over a stretch of nine games. Two seasons ago, Thomas was considered a top 5 point guard in the league, averaging 28.9 points per game on the Boston Celtics during the 2015-2016 season.

Isaiah Thomasʼ career has taken a turn for the worst, following his unsuccessful seasons on the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017. Following another unsuccessful season with the Nuggets, fans hope to see Thomas back on the court for the 2019-2020 NBA season.

The Denver Nuggets had previously signed Thomas to a 2 million dollar deal for one year. As of March 17, 2019, Thomas will be officially out of they rotation for the remainder of the season, and possible even for the playoffs. What do you think? Does Isaiah Thomas deserve a chance on a NBA roster? Will Thomas be brought back onto a NBA roster when he will become a unrestricted free agent this offseason? Thoughts?
