The life of Lively

by MARIAH THOMPSON Staff Writer

Blake Lively, the former “Gossip Girl” star, continues to shine as an actress with her looks and talents, and shocks the world with her ability to play diverse roles.

Lively, 26, was born in Los Angeles to Elaine and Ernie Lively, an American actor. She was raised with her four older siblings and half siblings, all of whom have taken part in the entertainment industry.

She says in an interview, “My whole family has been in the business.”

Lively’s first role was in “Sandman”, a film directed by her father. She played Trixie the Tooth Fairy at age 11.

Unlike the rest of her family, Lively initially did not want to pursue acting. She wanted to attend Stanford University instead. Eventually, Lively gave in and continued her life in the entertainment industry.

Lively landed one of the leading roles as Bridget in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” during her junior and senior years of high school.

She says that she did not even audition. Lively simply left the producers her headshot and right away, they knew she was perfect for the part.

With her hit performance, Lively was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for “Choice Movie Breakout-Female”.

Freshman Drew Dale said, “‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ has been one of my favorite movies. I have watched it so many times and Bridget, the character Blake plays, is one of my favorite of the group of friends!”

After this breakthrough performance, Lively began getting parts in other movies like “Elvis and Annabelle”. She played a bulimic girl who miraculously comes back to life after dying on stage for a pageant.

Her next major hit was a five-year-long television series based on the “Gossip Girl” books. She played Serena van der Woodsen, a former party girl who returns to the Upper East Side to rekindle old friendships and start afresh.

“There wasn’t a period in my life like Serena went through, where I was doing drugs and having sex with my best friend’s boyfriend. I never went through that kind of crazy,” Lively said in an interview with Cosmopolitan.

She dated her co-star Penn Badgley, who played Dan Humphrey, from 2007 until 2010.

Lively earned about $50,000 per episode, won three awards, and gained fans every step of the way.

Gabby Nagrowski said, “I am totally obsessed with ‘Gossip Girl’. I love Blake Lively’s character, Serena. Her style is really cute and Blake’s acting really makes her character even better. ‘Gossip Girl’ would not be as great as it is without Blake Lively.”

The 5’10” actress then landed a main role in the “Green Lantern”. She played Carol Ferris, the vice president of Ferris Aircraft. It earned almost $220 million at the box office.

Lively won a Teen Choice Award for “Choice Movie Actress Sci-Fi Fantasy” for her electrifying performance.

In 2012, Lively replaced Jennifer Lawrence for the part of Ophelia in “Savages”. She was also chosen to be the face of Gucci in the same year.

Throughout her acting career, Lively has been nominated for 17 awards and won six of those nominations.

Lively currently lives in Bedford, New York with her husband of almost two years, Ryan Reynolds, where she is working on her newest movie “Adaline”.
