Liam Hemsworth, 22, proposed to Miley Cyrus, 19, on May 31 with a 3.5-carat-cushion-cut diamond ring from jeweler Neil Lane. Freshman Shyama Srikkanth said, “It’s great that she is engaged but she shouldn’t take it lightly. She is only 19.” Hemsworth and Cyrus have been dating for three years. The first time they met was on the movie set of “The Last Song”, and since then, they became very close. Hemsworth said, “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.” It is great that they are in love, although engagement is a big step. Engagement means commitment to each other and that is something they obviously are not able to do. Hemsworth and Cyrus met in 2009. They dated for a year until August 2010 when they broke up, but were back together a month later. However, they split up again in November of the same year before finally reuniting for good in March 2011. Sophomore Alicia Kaur said, “I’m happy that they are in love, but they are too young to be engaged.” Cyrus, originally named Destiny Hope Cyrus, has had a very successful career as an actress and musician. Her parents are “Achy Breaky Heart” singer, Billy Ray Cyrus and Leticia Cyrus. Cyrus began her acting career on “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “The Suite Life on Deck” as the fictional singer Hannah Montana. Following her success as Hannah Montana, Cyrus decided to venture into the singing world on her own. Cyrus’s first single was “Best of Both Worlds”, released in 2006 under her pseudonym. She started her solo career with her first popular album was “Breakout” in 2008. Her film career kicked off with voicing Penny as “Bolt”. She also played herself in “Sex and the City 2” and “Justin Bieber: Never say Never”. Her two most recent movies are “LOL” and “So Undercover”, released this year. Fiancé Hemsworth, an Australian native, is the son of English teacher Leonie and social-services counselor Craig Hemsworth. His brothers, Chris, known for his role as Thor in “The Avengers”, and Luke are also actors. Hemsworth’s career began in 2009 with the films “Knowing” and “Triangle”. However, his role as Gale in “The Hunger Games” in 2012 is what drew audience’s attention to his acting. His most recent movie is “Love and Honor” as Mickey Wright. His upcoming roles include Billy “The Kid” Timmons in the 2012 movie, “The Expendables 2”. Hemsworth acquired many award for both “The Last Song” and “The Hunger Games”, including the Young Hollywood Award, Teen Choice Award, and the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Award. He was also nominated for several Teen Choice Awards and MTV Movie Awards. Hemsworth and Cyrus have not yet set a wedding date.
