Technology advances hit the library

by ANDREA FRENCH Section Editor

Our town’s well-known public library is opening a technology center called ‘Studio M’ where you can go experiment and play with all kinds of technology for which we are so fortunate to have access.

The official grand opening of Studio M is on Saturday, March 2 from 11 AM to 3 PM. Throughout the entire grand opening, there will be several demonstrations on specific technologies. These demonstrations will include digital photography and video creation and modification, music creation (with no instrument required), basic arguing programming, and 3D design and printing.

The whole idea behind this technology lab is to allow people in the Monroe Township Community to experiment and use all of the new pieces of the latest technology we have to offer.

“I am really excited that these new pieces of technology are available to us now. Sometimes I like to walk to the Public Library after school to do homework, and now I am excited that after homework I can play around with amazing software,” says sophomore Michael Perrotta.

Hopefully, many people of all ages will come to the Studio Lab and make the best use of this equipment.

The library is hoping to encourage people to innovate and experience an ‘a-ha moment’.  An a-ha moment is a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension. Who knows, maybe you have a hidden talent for computers and graphic design.

“I feel like our library already has so many things to offer. We have access to millions of books, computers, and even one on one tutoring. I didn’t think that we could add anything else to make the library better, but I was wrong! I can’t wait to go to the Grand Opening!” says sophomore Catarina Santo.

In addition to being able to use the equipment freely, there are many classes and workshops that you can sign up for on the public library website.  Some classes include demonstrations on 3D Printing, Arduino: Electronics Experimenting, GarageBand, Party Favors, Uploading and Editing Your Photos, and Photoshop Elements 11.

Keep an eye out for more details in our school’s morning announcements as well.

Come experience the Monroe Township Library’s new technology lab. Play, Create, Innovate!

Studio M is funded by a bequest from Margaret C. Gryson, a gift from Penny and John North, The Friends of the Monroe Township Library, and the Wells Fargo bank.
