Solange Knowles, Beyoncé Knowles’ sister who is best known for her role in “Bring it On: All or Nothing”, was caught on camera in a viral video attacking Beyoncé’s husband, Jay Z, in a hotel elevator following the Met Gala.
After seeing Jay Z and designer Rachel Roy get a little too close at the Met Gala after party at the Standard Hotel, the Knowles sisters were not happy. Solange even confronted Roy and told her to back off from her sister’s man while the group partied in the hotel’s Boom Boom Room.
Despite Knowles’ biting words, Roy did not back down, which called for even more fighting. Eventually, Jay and Beyoncé broke them up before things got too crazy, and left the party.
Jay claimed Solange was out of line calling out Roy, and wanted to continue partying at Rihanna’s after party across town. Beyoncé, on the other hand, wanted to go home to baby girl Blue Ivy.
What caused even more tension was Solange’s idea that Roy would be at Rihanna’s party. This caused Solange to violently attack Jay in the hotel elevator, which was caught on camera.
The three minute-long video includes Solange swinging and kicking at Jay Z, only to be held back by a bodyguard. Beyoncé seemed unaffected by what was going on as she stood idle while her sister screamed and threw punches at her husband.
“It wasn’t right for Solange to get physically violent, but she had a right to voice her concerns! Sounds like she was trying a little too hard to be a good sister. She was just trying to back up Beyoncé and make sure Jay Z was treating her right,” said junior Michelle Barclay.
The Standard Hotel has released a statement saying they have fired the person responsible for leaking the footage of the fight. They have also agreed to hand over whatever is necessary for a criminal investigation.
Solange, Jay Z, and Beyoncé have also broken their silence by releasing a statement shorty after the video was posted.
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it,” the trio said in a statement to the Associated Press.
Beyoncé also took to Instagram to post multiple pictures of her and Solange, all smiles and hugging. There are also rumors that Jay took Solange shopping for diamond jewelry soon after the fight.
“I’m glad they moved past what had happened that night. I felt so bad that such a private thing was leaked all over the internet. It is good they are staying positive in a situation like this,” said junior Liz Marchese.
