Gabby Douglas, the 2012 Olympic all-around champion in gymnastics, is reported to have been racially bullied by former coaches. Douglas told Oprah that she was the victim of racial bullying at Excalibur, the gymnast’s former gym in Virginia Beach. In response to the allegations, the gym’s coaches and members fired back, denying that any such bullying was taking place. Douglas reported that she was told to do something for her teammate because she was their slave, and also claimed to have been told by a coach to get a nose job. “I definitely felt isolated,” Douglas said. “I felt, ‘Why do I deserve this? Is it because I’m black?’”
