Ariana Grande’s new album, Thank U, Next, is making music history in many ways. She is the first artist to occupy the number 1, 2, and 3 positions simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart since The Beatles did it in 1964. The Beatles earned the honor for five weeks in March and April 1964, even claiming the entire top five on the April 4, 1964-dated chart. This makes Grande the second act to take the chart’s top 3 in Hot 100’s 60-year history. Her singles “7 Rings”, “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” and “Thank U, Next” respectively, made the top 3 on the chart. Along with this, she broke the record for the most simultaneous top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits by a female artist. 11 out of the 12 songs in Thank U, Next made the top 40. When the popstar received the monumental news, she reacted humorously with the two words, “wait what.” She followed up with another tweet thanking her fans,
“I laughed when i saw this bc i thought y’all edited it. thank u from the bottom of my heart. for so many reasons,” she also tweeted. “First time since the beatles huh. that’s wild. i thought this was a joke when i saw it i’m not kidding. i love u. so much. always have n will. thank u for everything.”
Her album is still breaking records while remaining No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The success of Grande’s album is proven with 360,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 14, according to Nielsen Music.
The recent weeks have been the biggest for a pop album in over a year. It gives Grande her fourth
No.1 album, her last one being Sweetener. Thank U, Next is the second number 1 album for her in less than 6 months. That span of five months and 22 days is the shortest gap between new No. 1s on the Billboard 200 for a woman since 1974-75, when Olivia Newton-John had done it.
Grande seems to have done it all at the age of just 25. She has achieved amazing feats after only a few years in the music industry. Ariana Grande is unquestionably the biggest Popstar in the industry today, and will continue to make music history in the future.
