Apple introduces the new iPhone 5

by CHRISTINE ABRAHAM Photographer

The new iPhone 5 is thinner, lighter, and faster than any other iPhone made. It is also the thinniest smartphone on the market.

It is 18 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter thanks to the elimination of the seperate touch-sensing layer in the screen. It has a larger four-inch screen, a more powerful chip, and faster wireless internet speeds.

The electronic device will be in stores on September 21, selling for $199 with a two-year contract. The iPhone 4S will sell for $99 and the iPhone 4 will be free, both with a two-year contract.

“It is an absolute jewel,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. “It is the most beautiful product we have ever made bar none.”

This iPhone will come in black and white. You will be able to connect to the quickest networks in the US and overseas with a twice-as-fast graphics processor.

The iPhone 5 also has a smaller connector called “Lightning” instead of its 30-pin dock connector that previous Apple phones contain. This means that owners have to purchase an adapter to plug their new phone into stereos and even charge their phones in existing iPhone accessories. This change allows more space in the device and matched the iPhone 5’s thinner style.

Apple’s new faster chip will allow the iPhone 5 to load music, open emails, and interact with other applications quickly. Another new feature for the iPhone is its camera, which lets users easily put together images into panorama, a feature that apps and digital stand-alone cameras have had for a while now. There is also the ability to take pictures while recording a video.

FaceTime also offers HD on the front side of the phone. To help with voice recognition, and noise cancelling, Apple added a third microphone. There is also a new updated Siri for location, bookings, and launching apps.

The iPhone 5 also features iOS 6, Apple’s new updated software that includes Apple’s own designed maps.

The iPhone 5’s new battery will last longer with eight hours of talk time, 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing and video, 40 hours of music, and 225 hours of standby time.

Apple also introduced its new line of “EarPods”, which includes a small remote and a mic on the cord so that you can adjust the volume or talk on the phone without using your hands. Wall Street declares that the iPhone 5 will be the hottest and best-selling device of the holiday season.
