2014-2015 school year coming to a close

My friends, I am pleased to inform you that this school year is slowly, but surely, coming to an end.

We are now entering the fourth marking period, where we have nothing but finals to look forward to (and, if applicable, SATs). The 2014-2015 school year was just your average school year, unlike previous ones with an obnoxious amount of snow days or power outages caused by a hurricane that closed the school for two weeks. It was just your typical year.

As typical as it may be, memories were made this year by everyone that they will surely never forget. Whether you made new friends or tried harder in school or finally found yourself, every school year brings new obstacles and new gains.

Let’s take a look back on what happened this past school year, good and bad:

PARCC testing: The PARCC annoyed everyone and their mother, literally. There was not one student or teacher who couldn’t help but complain about this standardized test taking place for the first time this year; some people even took it as far as unnecessary racial slurs. Schedule changes and opting out or “refusing” was the new topic of discussions. The fact that we had to retake it and still take finals? Let’s not even talk about it.

The Sophomore Prom Twitter Fight: Let’s not act like this wasn’t a huge dilemma for a solid week that almost everyone in the school was involved with. Junior prom has been one of the biggest scandals this school year, considering some peers aren’t too happy about the amount of sophomores attending it. Some tweets were made and it was an all-out war! People not involved, of course, took it as an advantage to either play peacemaker or distribute punny tweets for comedic relief and favorites. However, rumor has it that the current sophomores’ prom will be held in the school. Praying for y’all!

Dubsmashin’: Well, a little app called Dubsmash happened this year. Dubsmash is an app that has a variety of voice-overs from anywhere you can imagine, and you record yourself acting out to the voiceover. They have been everywhere possible and everyone gets a kick out of them.

Snapchat Success: Snapchat has taken over! Almost everyone has one and it has become the go-to app on everyone’s phone. Now with celebrities having public Snapchats and everyone’s urge to put a picture or video on their My Story, it has become more addicting than ever. I’m still trying to figure out how and why……

Drake is now Beyoncé?: Drake released his album this year “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” along with its many puns. He released it just as Beyoncé released her own, without a promo. With songs like “Know Yourself” and their catchy choruses like “Running through the six with my woes”, everyone can’t get the album out of their head.

The 2014-2015 school year was filled with memories and nuisances, as any school year. Students and teachers are all excited for what this summer has to bring and the next school year!

What were some of your favorite memories?
