The power couple Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z announced on March 25, 2015 that they will be filing for divorce.
The couple is separated at the moment, and will continue to live together until everything is figured out, a close source told ABC News.
“We have been going through a lot of problems in our marriage for months now. We have tried to keep our private life, private, but I think it is time for us to tell everyone about the divorce,” said Beyoncé.
Beyoncé also said that fights started frequently happening between them after the elevator incident between her sister Solange Knowles and Jay-Z.
Footage tape released by The Standard Hotel showed Solange violently beating Jay-Z. Solange was angry after seeing Rachel Roy getting too close to Jay-Z at the Met Gala. Solange told Roy to back off, but she did not.
Solange recently admitted that things between Jay-Z and the Knowles family have not been the same. Even though he did attend Solange’s wedding, there was still tension.
Beyoncé has also been taking many little vacations to get away from the stress and the countless fights between her and her husband. She usually takes her and Jay-Z’s three-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, with her. A close friend said that she hates nothing more than fighting with her husband in front of Blue.
Fights usually happened over not spending enough time with each other, Jay-Z’s strained relationship with his wife’s family, and different ideas of raising Blue.
“Jay-Z wants Blue to be more sheltered and does not like having her in the public eye at all. Obviously I do not want my daughter to have the whole world know all of her business, but that is the kind of life she was born into, I can’t change that. So I feel like it is better if she is aware of the life she is going to be living now. But Jay does not see it like that,” said Beyoncé, in an interview with Barbara Walters.
A big decision that will have to be made is who will gain custody of Blue Ivy. Obviously, both want custody, so the judge will have to decide which singer will get Blue.
“I still love Beyoncé and I always will, that’s just a fact. I wish I could say that we are just going through a rough patch, but we have been dragging this on for too long. It is a toxic relationship for our whole entire family. There is nothing we can do about it,” Jay-Z said.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have an estimated net worth of about 1 billion dollars. Together, they have 40 albums and have won over 40 Grammys.
